These are the days of the end of innocence…No longer can we pretend to be unaware of the problems of the world, or just blithely dismiss them because they are not our problem, that they do not affect us, that we can somehow shield ourselves and our children from them…

Unlike the group think of the average American in the pre WWII days, we can no longer sit smugly behind the walls of Fortress America, snug and secure that the problems of Europe and the rest of the world are far away and easily dismissed, and that we are impregnable because of our vastness and geographical isolation, protected by two mighty oceans, the Atlantic and the Pacific…

The Japanese shattered that illusion forever when they made their dastardly sneak attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, and dragged us kicking and screaming into the maelstrom and madness of WWII….We were forced then to get involved in the world’s affairs, and we ended up waging an ultimately victorious, all out effort engaging in a two front war, in both the Pacific against the Japanese and in Europe against Hitler and his German minions…. And our involvement in the affairs of the world has never stopped since…

Over the years since the end of WWII we have gotten more and more involved with the world’s problems, first with the division and political allocation of the prizes of victory, the spoils of war in dividing Europe up with our English and Russian allies after the war, then our quick and almost instant involvement with the Cold War and the two superpower Communist countries, specifically Russia and China as we fought a proxy war in Korea and the Russians introduced missiles into Cuba…

The doctrine of communism has suffered a fatal blow, but rampant capitalism is hardly the answer to the worlds problems either….America cannot play the role of the cop of the world either, we tried that unsuccessfully during the Cold War, with the Berlin wall and playing a deadly game of nuclear annihilation brinksmanship over Cuba…

They say the Cold War is over now, but then you read about the mad demagogue Putin in Russia who is so desperately trying to revive it with all this Ukrainian nuclear saber waving as he senses his country slipping into irrelevance….We are doing better with China, and are working with them on joint economic ventures and the curbing of Co2 emissions contributing to the greenhouse effect, which is crucial because otherwise that single issue will bring us all down…

I am not by nature a political person, but it is impossible to pick up a newspaper these days and not see that the whole Middle East with their mindless, senseless to us, inflammatory Muslim sects and counter sects are driving the whole world to yet another dangerous crossroads…There are wars in Syria,Turkey, Egypt, Iraq, Iran, and countless other Muslim strongholds, including large parts of Africa, and their leaders seem unable to control their people…

In fact they encourage them in their madness with all these suicide bombings and terrorist attacks all over the world, and this is a clear and present danger for not only America, as in the infamous 911 terrorist sneak attack or the more recent Boston Marathon bombings but also the rest of the world…I don’t pretend to begin to grasp all these political divisions, splits and schisms, but I am wondering why it is, whenever there is an attack and even more innocents are killed I notice that the “Good Muslims” decrie this violence, and rightfully so!….

Why do these “Good Muslims,” and I truly believe that 99% of them ARE peaceful, look the other way when they hear about upcoming plots and acts of sabotage and fail to report them to the authorities in time to prevent them, even if it means sacrificing their own people, perhaps their own friends and relatives to jail?….

Isn’t that better than remaining silent and letting the slaughter of the innocents continue unabated? These are basically tribal, religious schisms and not nationalistic attacks, which makes it harder to pinpoint the real guilty perpetrators…If this continues, there will be such a backlash among non Muslims worldwide it will be like fighting the Crusades all over again!

In fact, where are all the moderates of EVERY political bent? Why do they shield their violent brethren with their silence? The lunatic fringe in America is just as bad, why does it take a Waco, Texas or Jonestown, Guyana massacre to bring out all the people who knew all along what was going on?…The moderates of the world must unite, in every country, to restore sanity to our troubled world, before the extremists destroy it in their blind zealotry and adherence to their particular cause…

The entire American democratic political system is currently being hijacked by the 1% and their secretive funding of these Super PACS, ( Technically known as independent expenditure-only committees, Super PACS may raise unlimited sums of money from corporations, unions, associations and individuals, then spend unlimited sums to overtly advocate for or against political candidates)…Thus ensuring that only the most conservative, regressive and right wing fascist politicians get elected and their policies of greed are promoted…

They have captured nearly all the Republican party and many in the Democratic party as well…Severe campaign donation limitation legislation MUST be enacted to thwart these evil, greedy fascists from gaining complete control of our country by buying and bribing their path to power!

According to published reports, “Recent study by Demos and the U.S. Public Interest Group found that, as Politico reported, “Super PACs raised about $181 million in the last two years — with roughly half of it coming from fewer than 200 super-rich people.Super PACs are a game for millionaires and billionaires. They are a game for corporations and other wealthy interests. Meanwhile, citizens are pushed to the sidelines to watch the corruption of our democracy.”

“Mega-donors should face a version of the same tradeoff politicians face. Presidential candidates know that in exchange for pursuing immense political power, they must forfeit much of their privacy. Mega-donors, who are also seeking immense political power via their donations, should have to make the same trade. Journalists should not only investigate their interactions with politicians, they should ferret out information about what they believe and how they conduct their affairs.”

“One day, if we’re lucky, America will witness a vast mobilization—as significant as the populist and progressive movements of the late 19th and early 20th centuries—that frontally attacks the oligarchy that dominates our gilded age. Until then, journalists should fight a cultural guerrilla war.”

It was not long ago that my own ancestral people, the Irish, were blowing up car bombs in shopping centers in Belfast to prove their point…Somehow, someway they got past that point of mindless violence, and while the hatred and animosity may linger against the British, in response to the relentless British atrocities against the Irish over the centuries,there is at least no more overt, systematic organized violence in Ireland…..The moderates, on both sides, eventually prevailed…

Moderates of the world, UNITE! Only YOU can prevent the escalating cycles of violence whirling across today’s political landscape with our continued involvement in foreign wars! Only YOU can speak out against this fascist political subversion of the democratic process by the 1% through their obscene wealth and political donations ensuring politicians getting elected who support their endless greed…The future of America is in YOUR hands!
